Welcome to Year 5!
My name is Miss Maguire and I am the class teacher in Year 5 alongside Mrs Yates and Mrs Kaba (who’s in class every morning). In year 5 we work hard and take pride in everything we do. We aim to achieve great results but we ensure we do this by enjoying ourselves along the way.
You can find the year 5 curriculum on our school website if you’d like to know what topics we are covering across the academic year. Our PE sessions are every Wednesday and Friday afternoon so please ensure that your child has their kit in school ready for PE.
Each week, a maths and English homework will be given out on a Friday which must be handed in on the following Thursday. As well as this, we will be doing a spelling test every Friday ; the next week’s spellings will be given out on a Friday, giving children a week to learn them. By year 5, it is important that children know every times table up to their 12 times tables. We will have regular times tables tests so please ensure you are helping your child learn their times tables – times tables can be found in the front of their diaries.
Reading is an important part of school life and a skill that the children will use every day for the rest of their lives. It is therefore very important that you try to listen to your child read every night so their home reading books can be changed. Each week, children must complete a reading activity based on their home reading book which is changed on a Tuesday.
I hope this information gives you a small insight into the hard work that goes on in year 5. My classroom door is always open and I will see your children out at the end of the day. If you need to see me about anything – or just have a chat – please do not hesitate to come and see me.
All I want is the best for your children and I am very much looking forward to the year ahead.
